Mount Augustus – the biggest rock in the world

Who knew that Australia’s biggest rock is not in fact Uluru? Instead, it is Western Australia that lays claim to having the largest rock in the world.

Mount Augustus or Burringurrah as its known to the local Wajarri people rises 700m out from the surrounding plains and covers almost 5,000 hectares. The rock is 8km long, 5km wide and roughly twice as big as Uluru.

Emu Creek Station is a historic cattle station located in the Upper Gascoyne Region. The station is a short drive on a dirt track off the Northwest Coastal Highway and roughly 2.5 hours northwest of the Minilya Roadhouse if travelling north. Life really is a beach when you live in Perth. It’s a rare day that I don’t feel the sand beneath my feet and even now, I’m still in awe of the huge diversity of Perth’s beaches.
