How to choose the best Perth airport transfer for you

How to choose the best Perth airport transfer for you

For visitors to Perth getting to and from Perth airport can be somewhat confusing. To make your trip to our beautiful city as seamless as possible, I’ve put this guide together to give you a good overview of the Perth airport transport options that are available so that you can make the choice that’s the best for you.

Perth Airport Location

Perth airport is located in the suburb of Redcliffe and is about10km from the Perth Central Business (CBD) district and 27km from Fremantle.

Perth Airport Terminals

Perth airport had some big changes in the past three years and now operates out of four separate terminals – T1, T2, T3 and T4. The terminals are located in two different airport precincts that are about 15 minutes driving distance apart from each other.

Make sure you check your ticket carefully to see from what terminal you’re arriving or departing from. This is particularly important on your departure as it can be a nervous 15-minute commute to get from one terminal to the other (trust me, I’ve had done it).

As a guide, the Perth Airport terminals operate on this schedule. Doublecheck with your airline or Perth Airport for more information if required.

Terminal  Services
Terminal 1 (T1) International Most international services
Terminal 1 (T1) Domestic Virgin Australia (all interstate and some regional services)
Terminal 2 (T2) Alliance Airlines (regional services)
Tigerair (interstate services)
Virgin Australia (most regional services)
Regional Express Airlines (regional services)
Terminal 3 (T3)
Terminal 4 (T4)
Jetstar (interstate and regional services)
Qantas (international, interstate and regional services)

Perth Airport Transport options

Shuttle Bus

Shuttle Bus services operate from the airport and service Perth City, Scarborough, Cottesloe, Fremantle and Mandurah. For other areas, including Bunbury and Margaret River, check with the individual operators as they can accommodate extra destinations.

Shuttle buses need to be booked in advance but provide one of the more convenient and cost-effective Perth airport transport options, especially if you’re travelling with more than one person. The price per person decreases if there’s more than one person travelling in your group.

Shuttle bus prices from Perth airport to Perth CBD start from $24 for one person and $38 for two people. Shuttle buses to Fremantle cost around $75 for two people.

Perth Airport Public Transport

Transperth is the public transport company in Perth and operates a bus from Perth airport to the city.

Bus Route 380 operates from Elizabeth Quay to Perth Airport T1 and T2. The Perth Airport bus leaves every hour and takes approximately 40 minutes with limited stops along the way. See the timetable here.

Bus Route 40 operates from Elizabeth Quay to Perth Airport T3 and T4. Buses leave every hour and take approximately 35 minutes with limited stops along the way. See the timetable here.

You can pay with cash on the bus. Try to use coins rather than notes. Large notes can be a problem as the drivers usually can’t give back change. $5, $10 and $20 notes are okay but don’t go for anything larger than this. You can also purchase a SmartRider card from the SmarteOutlet in Terminal 1. SmarRider is the electronic ticketing system. Cards cost $10 upfront plus a minimum of $10 value.

This is the cheapest option to get to and from the airport. From Elizabeth Quay, you can take the train to other areas of Perth CBD. There is no direct public bus from Perth airport to Fremantle. The best option for public transport from Perth airport to Fremantle is to take the bus listed above to or from Elizabeth Quay from where you can take the train to Fremantle.

Note that the Perth airport train is currently in construction. This will be in operation from 2021. The closest train station to Perth airport is Burswood station. This is approximately 7 km from Terminal 1 or a ten-minute drive.

Perth Airport Taxi

Taxi ranks are located outside all four terminals and there are ample taxis any time of the day or night. The two taxi providers are Swan Taxis and Black and Gold Taxi.

Taxi fares from Perth CBD cost between $40 and $50.

Taxi fares from Perth airport to Fremantle cost between $65 and $75.

See this fare estimator for more details on the cost of a taxi from Perth airport.

Perth Airport Uber and Ola

Both Uber and Ola have pickup services at Perth Airport. The pickup areas are located within walking distance from each terminal. You can follow the directions given in the app or see the signage in the terminals to reach the location.
